Education Without Borders
Learn how we’re empowering children and families around the world with access to a high quality education.
What is Montessori?
Montessori is a method of educating children that places an emphasis on each individual child, nurturing their natural interests and curiosity through hands on activities.
The Montessori method of teaching was invented in 1907 by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician with a background in education. Her method quickly gained popularity, and just 4 years later in 1911, the first Montessori school opened in America.
The Montessori classroom focuses on 5 key areas of a child’s development. These areas are:
- Practical Life
- Sensorial
- Arithmetic
- Language
- Culture
Using these key areas, and with special attention to each individual child’s learning needs, teachers gently guide and facilitate self-directed activities, allowing the child the opportunity to be independent and partake in a journey of self-discovery.
Our Method
Built by our team of MACTE (Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education) / AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) certified Montessori teachers, our online curriculum has been tried and tested by hundreds of students, through thousands of live virtual classroom sessions, with outstanding results.
Here are the core features of our online Montessori classrooms:
- Montessori material list that can be crafted from common household objects.
- 100% online curriculum, with distraction free classrooms.
- 1:12 Teacher to student ratio for individual child attention.
- High speed, stable internet connection, with clear HD live video.
- Accurate replication of the Montessori environment.
- An immersive cultural experience, with the opportunity to interact with children from other cultures and mixed age groups.
- A focus on mastery of concepts through self-directed learning and the freedom to explore.
- A global family of travellers, expats and foreign learners, with opportunities to connect in-person through our brick and mortar school.
Special Needs
Our Montessori methodology is built around inclusivity, and giving each individual child dedicated attention for their specific learning goals and needs. This unique way of learning has allowed us to help countless children around the world with special needs excel in their education.
The Global Education Crisis
As we are all recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, the state of child education around the world has been left in disarray, with many children being left behind in their studies and struggling to catch up.
Some governments have enacted solutions, like Canada’s recent catch up payment, intended to cover the cost of resources needed to bring students back up to a standardized level.
In response to this growing crisis, we have created new virtual programs with the help of the teachers at My First Montessori School, our brick and mortar location in Toronto, Ontario.
Our virtual curriculum is specifically designed to focus on the needs of each individual child, and dedicate attention to the areas where they need most help. With this simple, but highly effective approach, students in our Online School programs have maintained or exceeded expected results during the pandemic.
We have also initiated several outreach programs in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG #4). These programs provide free, or heavily discounted classes to students in areas suffering from war or poverty.
Together, with the help of our online community and parents, we’re making an impact on this crisis, and establishing our ultimate goal: To provide education without borders.
